CITY OF SPRING PARK • SPRING PARK, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION 13-09 A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING RESIGNATION, DECLARING A VACANCY ON THE CITY COUNCIL AND APPOINTING A PERSON TO FILL THE VACANCY WHEREAS, on September 6, 2011, Jacalyn Stone was appointed to the Spring Park City Council to fill the vacancy on the Council created by the resignation of Tom Scanlon and to serve until a special election was held at the next regular city election in November, 2012 and a new Council member was elected and qualified to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the unexpired term of Council member Scanlon; and WHEREAS, a special election was held on November 6, 2012 at which John Ericson was elected to fill the remainder of the unexpired term of Council member Scanlon; and WHEREAS, John Ericson died prior to the special election and, therefore, did not qualify for office; and WHEREAS, the City of Spring Park City Council has received the written resignation of Jacalyn Stone as a member of the City Council, effective on January 7, 2013, thereby creating a new vacancy on the Council; and • WHEREAS, the new Council vacancy has occurred when fewer than two years remain in the unexpired term of Council member Scanlon so that a special election is not required and the City Council may appoint someone to fill the vacancy for the remainder of his unexpired term; and WHEREAS, in anticipation of the new vacancy, the Spring Park City Council solicited applications of interested persons to fill the new vacancy and received one application from a well qualified candidate for the position. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: 1. The Spring Park City Council accepts Jacalyn Stone's resignation as a member of the City Council effective on January 7, 2013 and declares that a vacancy exists on the City Council effective on January 7, 2013; and 2. The Spring Park City Council hereby appoints Doug Sippel to serve on the Council for the remainder of Council member Scanlon's unexpired term.
