The existing floor structure being supported by the beam is comprised of 14" deep TJI members spaced at 2'-0". The proposed beam has a span of 23'-0". The floor is assumed to be supporting 10 pounds per square foot of dead load and is supporting 40 pounds per square foot of live load per 2020 Minnesota Residential Code. After analysis and design using load resistance factor design load combinations and safety factors, a 4-ply 1.75"x 14" LVL (minimum properties: 2.2E-3100Fh) is required to span the opening and satisfy the strength limits to support the existing floor structure. The posts are expected to be installed in the existing wall. The vertical load on the post requires a minimum of (4) 2x6 studs (DFL No. 2 or approved equal) fastened together and blocked mid -height. The existing dimension to the top of the existing footing was provided as 3'-0" below the slab. The existing width of the foundation wall was provided as 8" thick. The existing footing width and thickness is unknown but was assumed to be V-0" thick and 2'-0" wide. The existing soil bearing capacity was assumed to be a minimum of 1,500 pounds per square foot. The point load from the beam is applied directly into the footing via the post and foundation wall and distributed into the footing at a 45 degree angle from the top of the foundation wall. The applied load on the existing footing does not exceed the allowable 1,500 pounds per square foot. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions regarding the interpretation of this report. We appreciate the opportunity to provide these services.
