SCOPE OF WORK: Installation of two(2)gas lines to one existing outdoor fire pit and one new outdoor fire pit located on
the patio area of a restaurant. No plans submitted with permit application.
PLAN SPECIFIC ITEMS(to be completed during the construction process):
1. Prior to acceptance, concealing piping, and initial operation, all piping installations shall be visually inspected, and
pressure tested. Test pressure shall be no less than 1-1/2 times the proposed maximum working pressure, but not
less than 25 psig for a duration of not less than hour.Tests utilizing dial gauges shall be performed with gauges
of 2 psi incrementation or less and shall have a pressure range not greater than twice the test pressure applied.
(2020 Minnesota State Fuel Gas Code, Section 406)
2. Unsure of length and material of gas line being installed, gas line sizes shall be calculated using the correct table
(402.4(1)-402.4((37) located in the 2020 Minnesota State Fuel Gas Code.
3. Underground piping shall be made of corrosion-resistant material that is suitable for the environment in which it will
be installed. (2020 Minnesota State Fuel Gas Code, Section 404.11.2)
4. Gas piping shall not penetrate building foundation walls at any point below grade. Gas piping shall enter and exit a
building at a point above grade and the annular space between the pipe and the wall shall be sealed. (2020
Minnesota State Fuel Gas Code, Section 404.6)
5. Minimum burial depth of individual gas lines shall be installed not less than 8" below finished grade, provided that
such installation is approved and is installed in a location not susceptible to physical damage.
6. Where in contact with material, or passing through concrete or other abrasive material or atmosphere exerting a
corrosive action, metallic piping and fittings coated with a corrosion-resistant material, sleeve, or casing shall be
used. (2020 Minnesota State Fuel Gas Code, Section 403.8)
7. Any plastic gas line pipe shall be installed outdoors underground only. Plastic pipe shall not be used within or
under any building or slab except for outdoor patio,walkway, and driveway slabs. (2020 Minnesota State Fuel Gas
Code, Section 404.17.1)
8. Plastic pipe is permitted to terminate above ground outside of buildings where installed in a premanufactured
anodeless riser or service head adapter riser that are installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
(2020 Minnesota State Fuel Gas Code, Section 404.17.1)
9. A yellow insulated copper tracer wire or other approved conductor, or a product specifically designed for that
purpose, shall be installed adjacent to underground nonmetallic piping.Access shall be provided to the tracer wire,
or the tracer wire shall terminate aboveground at each end of the nonmetallic piping.The tracer wire size shall be
not less than 18 AWG and the insulation type shall be suitable for direct burial. (2020 Minnesota State Fuel Gas
Code, Section 404.17.3)
10. Shutoff valve shall be of an approved type; shall be constructed of materials compatible with the piping; and shall
comply with the standard in accordance with Table 409.1.1 of the 2020 Minnesota State Fuel Gas Code.
11. Fire pits shall have the gas shut off valve within 6'-0"of each fire pit and shall be installed upstream of the union.
