dwelling and its attic by not less than 1/2-inch gypsum
fastened per Table R702.3.5
If dwelling extends above garage, then garage ceiling to be
protected with not less than 5/8-inch Type X gypsum attached
perpendicular to the framing using minimum 1 718" 6d nails
or equivalent screws 6" o.c.
All structure that supports required separation is to be
protected with 112" Gypsum fastened per Table R702.3.5

R314.2.2 Alterations, repairs and additions. An individ-
ual dwelling unit shall be equipped with smoke alarms
located as required for new dwellings when:
1. Alterations, repairs (including installation or
replacement of windows or doors), or additions
requiring a building permit occur; or
2. One or more sleeping rooms are added or created in
existing dwellings.
Buildings shall have approved address numbers,
building numbers or approved building identification
