Where floors, walls, ceilings or any other portion of the building or structure are required to be altered or replaced in the process of installing or repairing any system, a separate building permit shall be obtained in accordance with the MN State Building Code. (MMC 302.1) 5. Penetrations of floor/ceiling assemblies and assemblies required to have a fire-resistance rating shall be protected in accordance with Chapter 7 of the MN State Building Code. (MMC 302.2) 6. Equipment shall be installed as required by the terms of their approval, in accordance with the conditions of the listing, the manufacturer's installation instructions and the MN State Mechanical Code. Manufacturer's installation instructions shall be available on the job site at the time of inspection. (MMC 304.1) 7. Equipment and appliances installed at grade level shall be supported on a level concrete slab or other approved material extending not less than 3-inches above adjoining grade or shall be suspended not less than 6-inches above adjoining grade. Such support shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. (MMC 304.10) 8. Clearance around appliances shall be sufficient to allow inspection, service, repair or replacement. (MMC 306.1) 9. An unobstructed passage way measuring not less than 36-inches wide and 80-inches in height shall be provided for appliances within rooms. (MMC 306.2) 10. Carbon Monoxide Alarms i. Carbon monoxide alarms shall be installed in new and existing rooms containing a fuel-buming appliance that is utilized to control environmental conditions and produces carbon monoxide during operation. (MFGC 311.1) ii. Carbon monoxide alarms shall receive their primary power from the building wiring where such wiring is served from a commercial source, and when primary power is interrupted, receive power from a battery. Wiring shall be permanent and without a disconnecting switch other than that required for overcurrent protection, except: (MFGC 311.2.1) 11. Where installed in buildings without commercial power, battery-powered carbon monoxide alarms are permitted. 12. Where installed in the room of an existing building containing a fuel-burning appliance, battery-powered carbon monoxide alarms are permitted. 13. Carbon monoxide alarms shall be listed in accordance with UL 2034. (MFGC 311.2.1.1) 14. Combination carbon monoxide and smoke alarms shall be an acceptable alternative to carbon monoxide alarms. Combination carbon monoxide and smoke alarms shall be listed in accordance with UL 2034 and UL 217. (MFGC 311.2.1.3) 15. Carbon monoxide detection systems shall be an acceptable alternative to carbon monoxide alarms listed in Sections 311.2.1.2 and 311.2.1.3, provided they comply with NFPA 720 and are listed in accordance with UL 2075. (MFGC 311.2.1.4) 16. Refrigerant Piping: 17. Any portion of a refrigeration system that is subject to physical damage shall be protected in an approved manner. (MMC 1101.3) 18. Refrigerant circuit access ports located outdoors shall be fitted with locking-type tamper-resistant caps or shall be otherwise secured to prevent unauthorized access. (MMC 1101.10) 19. Refrigerant pipe joints erected on the premises shall be exposed to visual inspection prior to being covered or enclosed. (MMC 1107.7) 22. Piping insulation shall comply with IECC-12 Table C403.2.8. (MCEC C403.2.8) 23. Piping insulation shall be protected from damage, including damage from sunlight, moisture, equipment maintenance, and wind, and shall provide shielding from solar radiation to deter degradation of the material. (MCEC C403.2.8.1) 24. Condensate: 25. Condensate drain systems shall be provided for appliances containing evaporators or cooling coils. (MMC 307.2) 26. Condensate from all cooling coils and evaporators shall be conveyed from the drain pan outlet to an approved place of disposal. Such piping shall maintain a minimum horizontal slope in the direction of discharge of not less than one-eighth unit vertical in twelve units horizontal (1-percent slope). Condensate shall not discharge into a street, alley or other areas so as to cause a nuisance. (MMC 307.2.1) 27. Condensate drain lines shall not be less than 3/4-inch internal diameter.
