The plans and specifications, for the project named above, have been reviewed for substantial compliance with the
current Minnesota State Building Code. This review is limited to the submitted scope of work; is based upon the
supposition that the data on which the design is based are correct and that the necessary legal authority has been
obtained to construct the project. Although every attempt has been made to identify code issues or concems for proper
and necessary change, the project designer(s), the building contractor(s) and the property owner(s) are ultimately
responsible for providing complete code compliance and maintaining minimum construction standards for the
safeguarding of life or limb, health, public welfare and property while constructing this project.
Approval is based on the correction of all noted deficiencies and compliance with all items listed below. Any changes from
these documents and/or additional information shall be submitted to the Department of Building Safety for code
compliance review and approval. Written response of approval must be on site prior to implementation of such changes.
The following information is related to the submitted plans/scope or as general information regarding code compliance.
Compliance with the stated requirements will be verified during the construction process.

Maintenance: A# buildings and structures, both existing and new, and all parts of the buildings or structures, shall be
maintained in a safe and sanitary condition. All de vices or safeguards required by this code shall be maintained in
conformance with the code editions under which the devices or safeguards are installed. (MRC 1300. 0225)
1. Maintain any and all safeguards, fire separations, draftstoping, fire -blocking etc. Alterations to any life safety
safeguards or systems will require additional review.
Construction equipment and materials shall be stored and placed so as not to endanger the public, the workers or
adjoining property for the duration of the construction project. (MBC 3301.2)
Required exits, existing structural elements, fire protection devices and sanitary safeguards shall be maintained at all
times during alterations, repairs or additions to any building or structure except: (MBC 3302.1)
1. Where such required elements or devices are being altered or repaired, adequate substitute provisions shall be
made.
2. Maintenance of such elements and devices is not required where the existing building is not occupied.
Waste materials shall be removed in a manner that prevents injury or damage to persons, adjoining properties and public
fights -of -way. (MBC 3302.2)
Fire safety during construction shall comply with the applicable requirements of Minnesota Building Code and the
applicable provisions of Chapter 33 of the Minnesota Fire Code. (MBC 3302.3)
Fire safety during demolition shall comply with the applicable requirements of Minnesota Building Code and the
applicable provisions of Chapter 33 of the Minnesota Fire Code. (MBC 3303.7)
Structures under construction, alteration or demolition shall be provided with no fewer than one approved portable fire
extinguisher in accordance with Section 906 and sized for not less than ordinary hazard as follows: (MBC 3309.1)
1. At each stairway on all floor levels where combustible materials have accumulated.
2. In every storage and construction shed.
3. Additional portable fire extinguishers shall be provided where special hazards exist, such as the storage and use of
flammable and combustible liquids.
The provisions of the Minnesota Building Code and the Minnesota Fire Code shall be strictly observed to safeguard
against all fire hazards attendant upon construction operations. (MBC 3309.2)
Means of egress and required accessible means of egress shall be maintained at all times during construction,
demolition, remodeling or alterations and additions to any building except; existing means of egress need not be
maintained where approved temporary means of egress systems and facilities are provided. (MBC 3310.2)
Minnesota Building Code (MBC) Items:
1. Maintain 1-hr fire rated partition and fire rated assemblies at walls, ceilings, and floors.
2. Ceiling access panel must maintain a 1 hour rating and be installed according with that listing/rating.
3. 907.2.9.1.3 Dwelling unit smoke alarms. Dwelling unit smoke alarms required by Section 907.2.10 shall not be
connected to the building fire alarm system.

4. 713.4 Fire -resistance rating. Shaft enclosures shall have a fire -resistance rating of not less than 2 hours where
connect-ing four stories or more, and not less than 1 hour where connecting less than four stories. The number of stories
connected by the shaft enclosure shall include any basements but not any mezzanines. Shaft enclosures shall have a
fire -resistance rating not less than the floor assembly penetrated, but need not exceed 2 hours. Shaft enclosures shall
meet the requirements of Section 703.2.1.
5. 713.5 Continuity. Shaft enclosures shall be constructed as fire barriers in accordance with Section 707 or horizontal
assemblies constructed in accordance with Section 711, or both, and shall have continuity in accordance with Section
707.5 for fire barriers or Section 711.2.2 for horizontal assemblies, as applicable.
6. 718.2.3 Connections between horizontal and vertical spaces. Fireblocking shall be provided at interconnections
between concealed vertical stud wall or partition spaces and concealed horizontal spaces created by an assembly of floor
joists or trusses, and between concealed vertical and horizontal spaces such as occur at soffits, drop ceilings, cove
ceilings and similar locations.
