All vehicle access doors (overhead doors)
must be rated to withstand 115 M.P.H
Ultimate wind loads. Approved assemblies
must be marked/labeled as compliant with
ANSI/DASMA108. Door specific wind rating
drawing and Manufacturer's instructions must
be present on site for building inspector.
Garage and it's attic is required to be separated from the
dwelling and its attic by not less than 1/2-inch gypsum
fastened per Table R702.3.5
If dwelling extends above garage, then garage ceiling to be
protected with not less than 5/8-inch Type X gypsum attached
perpendicular to the framing using minimum 1 7/8" 6d nails
or equivalent screws 6" o.c.
All structure that supports required separation is to be
protected with 1/2" Gypsum fastened per Table R702.3.5
Fire-blocking. In combustible construction,
fire-blocking shall be provided to cut off all
concealed draft openings (both vertical and
horizontal) and to form an effective fire barrier
between stories, and between a top story and
the roof space.
Fire-blocking shall be provided in wood-frame
construction in the following locations:
•In concealed spaces of stud walls and
partitions, including furred spaces and parallel
rows of studs or staggered studs, as follows:
Vertically at the ceiling and floor levels.
Horizontally at intervals not exceeding
10 feet.
•At all interconnections between concealed
vertical and horizontal spaces such as occur
at soffits, drop ceilings and cove ceilings.
•In concealed spaces between stair
stringers at the top and bottom of the run.
•At openings around vents, pipes, ducts,
cables and wires at ceiling and floor level, with
an approved material to resist the free
passage of flame and products of combustion.
•At chimneys and fireplaces per Section
R1003.19.
•At cornices in two family dwellings at the line
of dwelling separation.
